Gujarat’s Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department will organise 13 cluster-level industrial recruitment fairs across the state, including the Ahmedabad region, with the aim of connecting local jobseekers and industrial employers at nearby locations. The fairs will be conducted at an estimated cost of Rs 73.12 lakh.
The initiative is designed to help young people find employment closer to their home districts while allowing companies and industrial units to participate in recruitment events without requiring candidates to travel long distances. The department is planning the fairs around industrial clusters that have developed across Gujarat.
The Ahmedabad region will cover Ahmedabad, Mehsana and Banaskantha clusters. The Rajkot region will include Jamnagar, Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Kutch-Bhuj and Rajkot. The Surat region will cover Surat, Valsad and Bharuch, while the Vadodara region will include Vadodara and Godhra. The new Vav-Tharad district has also been included in the state-wide plan.
According to the report, the cluster boundaries have been planned with geographical convenience and transport access in mind. Candidates from one district should be able to travel to a nearby cluster location, while employers from adjoining districts can participate in a common recruitment exercise. The plan also includes nearby districts within the broader cluster arrangement.
The department will give priority to industrial sectors that are strongly established in each district and are capable of providing significant local employment. This approach links the recruitment events to the existing economic geography of each area rather than treating the state as a single, uniform labour market.
The proposed fairs are expected to bring together employers and candidates with different educational qualifications at the same venue. The stated objective is to maximise employment opportunities by creating a common platform for industrial units and jobseekers. Details such as the dates, venues, participating companies and registration process have not been provided in the report.
The cluster model also places transport and location planning at the centre of recruitment access. For jobseekers in districts where industrial employment is limited, a nearby fair could reduce the cost and time involved in identifying employers in neighbouring industrial areas. For companies, the arrangement is intended to widen access to candidates across multiple districts while keeping recruitment activity regionally focused.
The recruitment fairs are expected to begin shortly, according to the department’s plan as reported by Nav Gujarat Samay. The next formal steps will be the announcement of the cluster-wise schedules, venues and participating industrial establishments.
