Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is developing the city’s first modern rotary parking facility near Ratanpol on Relief Road, aiming to create space for 12 vehicles in one location and ease parking pressure in the busy Kot area.
The facility is being established near Ratanpol, where Relief Road has a large concentration of shops and attracts thousands of shoppers and visitors each day. The area currently has limited space for vehicle parking, creating difficulties for customers, traders and others visiting the commercial district.
According to a report by Divya Bhaskar, the rotary parking project is intended to make more efficient use of the limited land available in the area. The system will allow 12 cars to be parked at the same location, although the report does not specify the technology, operating system or footprint of the facility.
Relief Road is among Ahmedabad’s busiest shopping streets and forms part of the city’s historic Kot area. The concentration of retail activity brings a steady flow of private vehicles, while the narrow and highly built-up urban environment limits the scope for conventional surface parking.
The municipal project is therefore being positioned as a local traffic-management measure as well as a parking intervention. By increasing the number of vehicles that can be accommodated in a constrained space, the facility is expected to improve parking availability for traders, shoppers and visitors and reduce the pressure created by vehicles searching for space along the road.
The report does not provide details on the project’s cost, construction schedule, proposed user charges, maintenance arrangements or expected commissioning date. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s next steps on these operational details will determine how the facility is integrated with traffic and parking management around Ratanpol and Relief Road.
