Ahmedabad cyber fraud investigation involving an official's unauthorised bank transfers

An Ahmedabad Collectorate deputy mamlatdar and executive magistrate has reported losing ₹2,62,409 from his Indian Bank account in an alleged cyber fraud, prompting a complaint at the Nikol police station and an investigation into the account that received the money.

According to a report by Nav Gujarat Samay – Ahmedabad, Keyur Arvindbhai Trivedi, 57, serves in the Alien Recovery branch at the Ahmedabad Collectorate office in Subhash Bridge. He lives in Galaxy Bungalows near Haridarshan Chowkdi in Nikol.

The reported incident took place at around 2 pm on September 12, 2026, while Trivedi was at home. He began receiving messages containing one-time passwords from different unknown numbers on his mobile phone. Soon after the messages arrived, two transactions were made from his Indian Bank account linked to the Haridarshan area of Naroda, the report said.

The first transaction transferred ₹1,12,796, while a second transaction moved ₹1,49,613. Together, the two transfers amounted to ₹2,62,409. The report said the transactions were carried out without Trivedi’s permission or knowledge.

After noticing the unauthorised transfers, Trivedi reported the matter through the cybercrime helpline 1930. The initial inquiry reportedly found that the money had been transferred to an account with Axis Bank. The identification and role of the account holder remain part of the police investigation.

Trivedi subsequently submitted a written complaint at the Nikol police station. Police registered a case against an unidentified bank account holder under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, according to the report. The investigation is continuing.
