More than half of the document checks linked to notices issued during Delhi’s special electoral-roll revision have been completed, with the Chief Electoral Officer’s office setting November 30 as the deadline for resolving all claims and objections.
The review covers around 33 lakh voters who received notices. Of these cases, document verification has been completed for 17.03 lakh, or more than 51 percent, according to the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office, as reported by Jagran – New Delhi.
The notices were issued for two broad reasons. Around 13.79 lakh voters were unable to link their names with the 2002 electoral roll, while irregularities were found in the application forms of 19.33 lakh voters. The verification process is being carried out by booth-level officers, who are visiting voters’ homes to collect documents.
The home-visit process means voters do not need to travel to government offices to submit the required documents, according to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office. The exercise is taking place alongside the handling of claims and objections connected with the draft electoral roll.
Special camps are also being organised to help eligible residents whose names were left out of the draft voter list. Camps were held at different polling stations on Friday, and another round is scheduled for October 11. Eligible residents can apply to have their names added by submitting Form 6.
The administration has also arranged specific measures for families who have been displaced and for transgender voters seeking registration. These arrangements are part of the ongoing effort to process applications and address omissions from the draft list.
The schedule places the next major administrative milestone on November 30, when all claims and objections are due to be decided. The final Delhi voter list is scheduled to be published on December 4. Until then, the verification of submitted documents, applications for inclusion and objections to entries will continue through the notified process.
