Baramati Businessman Attacked Near Airport as Gunfire Report Emerges

Baramati businessman attack reported near Baramati Airport

A businessman identified as Rana Suryawanshi, owner of Rana Shipping Company, was reportedly attacked near Baramati Airport on Sunday evening, with reports also emerging that shots were fired in the area. Suryawanshi suffered an injury to his hand and was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic for treatment, according to a report by Navbharat Times – Pune.

The incident reportedly took place at around 7.30 pm near the airport. According to the report, an individual approached Suryawanshi on the pretext of offering him a flower bouquet before attacking him. The motive has not been established. It remains unclear whether the assault was linked to a personal dispute or had another cause.

Dr Mud it Saxena, group CEO of Ruby Hall Clinic, said Suryawanshi had been admitted to the facility and was under observation. The medical team was monitoring his condition and would conduct a detailed assessment to determine the appropriate course of treatment, according to the statement cited in the report.

The report also said that gunshots were heard during the incident, although no one was injured by the firing. It suggested that shots may have been fired into the air, but the circumstances and purpose of the reported firing have not been confirmed. Police were investigating the incident, and no detailed official account had been released at the time of publication.

The reported assault comes amid concerns over public safety in Baramati following recent incidents involving attacks with sharp weapons, locally referred to as koyta attacks, and other serious crimes. The latest case has brought renewed attention to security around the airport and surrounding areas, where passengers, staff, businesses and visitors may be present during evening hours.

Baramati is also an important regional centre for business, administration and transport in Pune district. An incident near airport premises therefore raises questions about access control, surveillance and police response in areas that serve both local residents and commercial activity. The available report does not establish whether the alleged attack occurred inside a restricted airport area or on an adjoining public road.

The case has also been discussed against the backdrop of recent political comments on crime in Baramati. Legislator Rohit Pawar had raised concerns about law and order in the area during a campaign rally for Legislative Council elections, according to the report. Those comments were made separately and do not establish a connection with the attack on Suryawanshi.

The incident was reported shortly after a separate shooting incident in Mumbai in which actor Tiger Shroff’s car was allegedly targeted in Juhu. The Mumbai case involved three unidentified people who reportedly arrived on a two-wheeler. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis sought information from Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, and 15 police teams were reportedly deployed to trace the suspects.

The Baramati investigation is expected to clarify the sequence of events, identify the attacker and establish whether firearms were used and why shots were allegedly fired. Further details depend on the police inquiry and the medical assessment of Suryawanshi.
