A coconut tree standing in the middle of a newly built road near Ramol in Ahmedabad has become a reported road-safety hazard, with three minor accidents and a written request from traffic police to remove it immediately.
The affected route runs from Ramol police station towards Ramol village and connects to the S.P. Ring Road. The road, constructed recently by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, was intended to improve movement between CTM and the ring road. However, local residents have told Divya Bhaskar that the road is proving dangerous for motorists instead of providing safer and more convenient access.
According to the report, the tree stands near a bend on the road, where it is difficult for drivers to see clearly, particularly at night. Its position also obstructs the light from a streetlight, reducing visibility for vehicles approaching the curve. The route reportedly carries continuous traffic, increasing the risk created by the obstruction.
Three minor accidents have already been reported at the location. The report does not provide details about the vehicles involved or the extent of injuries or property damage. It does, however, identify the tree’s placement on the carriageway and the reduced visibility around the bend as immediate concerns for road users.
Local residents had previously submitted representations seeking action, but said that no appropriate steps were taken. The issue came to the attention of the traffic police after repeated accident incidents were reported, according to the report.
Traffic police have since written to the relevant department, asking it to remove the tree from the middle of the road without delay in the interest of motorists’ safety. The report does not state which civic department owns or maintains the tree, whether an inspection has been completed, or when removal work will begin.
The incident places attention on the coordination required between road construction, street-lighting, tree management and traffic safety.
