West Bengal Police constable training will begin on October 12, with newly appointed personnel scheduled to be sent to their respective districts for Durga Puja duty just days later. Appointment letters will be handed over to the recruits at a programme at Kolkata’s Netaji Indoor Stadium on October 11.
The basic training will be conducted at police training institutions across West Bengal. The state police directorate’s training branch has directed that district-wise allotments of training institutions for the newly appointed constables be issued shortly.
According to the instructions issued by the Additional Director General of Police in charge of the training branch, the recruits will report to their assigned training institutions when the programme begins on October 12. On October 17, after only a few days of initial training, all trainees will be sent to their respective districts for Durga Puja duty.
The deployment is intended to place the newly appointed constables in districts during the major festival period. The report does not specify the number of recruits being appointed or the districts to which individual trainees will be assigned.
After completing their Puja duty, the constables will have to return to their respective training institutions on October 27. They will then resume and complete the remaining part of their basic training.
The police headquarters has instructed all district police superintendents and police commissioners to make timely arrangements for the recruits’ travel and other logistical and administrative requirements. These arrangements will cover their movement between training institutions and the districts where they are assigned for festival duty.
The basic course is expected to introduce the recruits to different aspects of police service and essential operational procedures. Further details about the district-wise allocation and the training institutions are expected to be issued by the police authorities before the programme begins.
