An elevated road project planned between Delhi and Gurugram is set to reshape a major congestion corridor, with the National Highways Authority of India preparing a detailed project report for a 4.5-kilometre elevated section from Andheria Mor to the Delhi-Gurugram border.
The proposed work forms part of an approximately 8.5-kilometre road connection between Andheria Mor and Gurugram. NHAI has completed the DPR for the Delhi section, including the elevated road and a plan to widen MG Road. The project is estimated to cost ₹980 crore.
NHAI Project Director Yogesh Tilak said the DPR for the Delhi portion, covering the stretch from Andheria Mor to the Delhi-Gurugram border, had been prepared. The technical approval for the DPR has also been secured, while administrative approval from the ministry is awaited before the tender can be issued.
The corridor links MG Road in Gurugram with Andheria Mor in Delhi. In Gurugram, MG Road begins near IFFCO Chowk and continues towards the Delhi border. The proposed elevated section is intended to separate a significant part of through traffic from surface-level movement on one of the key routes used by commuters travelling between the two cities.
The plan also includes an elevated U-turn over the Delhi-Jaipur Highway for traffic moving from MG Road towards Delhi. NHAI is additionally examining the possibility of creating an elevated connection for vehicles travelling from Delhi towards MG Road. These structures are planned to provide grade-separated movement at a junction where traffic from MG Road, the Delhi-Jaipur Highway and nearby corridors converges.
A related project has also received approval in Gurugram. The Haryana government has approved an elevated road on the 2.25-kilometre stretch connecting the Delhi-Jaipur Highway with the main road leading towards the Dwarka Expressway near Hero Honda Chowk. The project is expected to provide a separate route for traffic travelling from the Dwarka Expressway towards sectors around Hero Honda Chowk, without requiring vehicles to enter the busiest portion of the Delhi-Jaipur Highway.
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has begun the process of appointing a consultant for the Gurugram section. The proposed elevated road would run from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, and a fresh DPR will be prepared for that stretch, according to the information provided by the authority.
Together, the Delhi and Gurugram proposals cover separate but connected interventions: an elevated section on the Delhi side, junction improvements on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway and a planned elevated route in Gurugram. The projects are being presented as measures to improve movement between Delhi and Gurugram and reduce pressure on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway.
The immediate next step for the NHAI project is approval of the DPR by the ministry. After that approval, NHAI is expected to issue the construction tender. In Gurugram, the consultant appointment and preparation of a new DPR remain the next stages before the elevated road project can move towards execution.
