TNRERA Reconstitution Brings New Regulatory Team in Tamil Nadu

TNRERA reconstitution represented by a Tamil Nadu government and real estate regulatory office

Tamil Nadu has reconstituted the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA), appointing retired IAS officer K Phanindra Reddy as its chairperson and naming four new members through a state-appointed selection process.

The appointments were notified in an order issued by the housing and urban development department on Tuesday. The newly appointed members are retired bureaucrats Reeta Harish Thakkar and Mythili K Rajendran, retired district judge S Kirubaharan Mathuram, and retired Public Works Department engineer-in-chief K P Sathyamurthy.

The reconstitution restores the authority’s full membership after the state government had earlier superseded TNRERA for six months or until a new authority was formed, whichever came earlier. During the supersession period, Reddy served as chairperson, while retired district judge A Nazir Ahamed and retired bureaucrat Reeta Harish Thakkar were appointed as members on an interim basis.

The latest appointments were made on the recommendations of a selection committee constituted by the state government, according to the order reported by Times of India. The new composition brings together former administrators, a retired judge and a senior engineering official from the public works system.

TNRERA is the state’s regulatory authority for the real estate sector under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act. Its institutional functioning is relevant to homebuyers, promoters and real estate agents dealing with registered projects and regulatory processes in Tamil Nadu. The authority’s reconstitution therefore marks a change in the body responsible for handling its regulatory responsibilities after the interim arrangement.

The government’s order does not, in the information available, specify any separate changes to TNRERA’s powers, procedures or project-registration framework. The immediate administrative step is the replacement of the superseded arrangement with the newly constituted authority, led by Reddy and supported by the four appointed members.
