Telangana New Bars Draw 8,771 Applications and ₹87.71 Crore

Telangana new bars licensing demand represented by an urban commercial street in Hyderabad

Telangana’s proposal for 41 new bars has drawn 8,771 applications and generated ₹87.71 crore in application revenue for the Excise Department, with strong demand recorded both within the Hyderabad metropolitan region and across municipalities in other districts, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle.

The applications cover 14 bars in the CURE jurisdiction up to the Outer Ring Road limits and 27 bars across municipal corporations and municipalities elsewhere in the state. The figures indicate that the licensing exercise has produced a substantial upfront revenue stream before the final selection or allocation of licences.

Of the total applications, 4,252 were submitted for the 14 bars located within the Greater Hyderabad, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad jurisdictions. The remaining 4,519 applications were received for bars proposed across 27 urban local bodies outside these areas.

The distribution shows marked differences in demand between locations. A bar in Asifabad received 207 applications, while Aliabad, within the Quthbullapur Excise Superintendent limits, received 201. Two proposed bars in Muduchintalapalli attracted 112 applications, and two in Yellampet received 225 applications.

In Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Ashwaraopeta recorded 357 applications. Kalluru in Khammam received 325, while Mahbubnagar received 78, Makthal 38, Devarakadra 90 and Maddur 58. In Sangareddy district, Gaddapotharam received 112 applications for the proposed bar, while two bars in Gummadidala attracted 287 applications and Kohir received 127.

Other locations also reported significant application numbers. Bodhan in Nizamabad received 19 applications, Bichkunda in Kamareddy 90, and Chevella, near Future City, 279. Moinabad received 664 applications for two proposed bars. Kodangal in Vikarabad recorded 27 applications and Pargi 36.

The figures from northern and eastern Telangana included 131 applications for Narsampet in Warangal Rural, 349 for Station Ghanpur, 331 for Kesamudram in Mahabubabad and 376 for Mulugu in Jayashankar Bhupalpally.

The application pattern places the Excise Department at the intersection of state revenue collection, licensing regulation and the growth of urban and peri-urban settlements. Locations such as Chevella and Moinabad, which fall within areas experiencing expanding development and regional connectivity, recorded comparatively high application volumes in the data reported by the newspaper.

The department’s figures do not, however, establish how many applicants will ultimately receive licences, whether all 41 proposed bars will be approved, or how the applications will be evaluated. The report also does not provide details of the selection criteria, the proposed licence period or the next administrative milestone. Those decisions will determine how the application revenue translates into the final distribution of licensed bars across Telangana’s urban jurisdictions.
