Telangana is planning a centre of excellence for micro, small and medium enterprises and a monthly grievance day to help businesses resolve operational issues, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said at an MSME conference in Hyderabad on October 10.
The proposed centre of excellence will support technology adoption, market access and investment linkages for MSMEs, according to the Minister. It is also intended to promote products made in Telangana in national and international markets.
Sridhar Babu announced the plans while inaugurating the LUB MSME South India Summit, organised by Laghu Udyog Bharati (Telangana). The Minister’s office issued a release on the proceedings. The event was attended by SBI Managing Director Ram Mohan Rao and representatives of Laghu Udyog Bharati, including Y. Venkateswarlu, K. Narendra Nath Dutt and Om Anuj Khadelwal.
The proposed monthly MSME grievance day will provide an institutional channel for enterprises to raise complaints and seek their resolution, the Minister said. The announcement did not specify when the grievance day would begin, which department would administer it, or the process and timelines for disposing of complaints.
The measures are part of the State government’s wider effort to strengthen support for MSMEs through a dedicated policy, according to the Minister. He said MSMEs played an important role in industrial development and supported the livelihoods of millions of families.
The announcement places the proposed centre of excellence alongside a broader focus on the competitiveness of smaller businesses. The Minister called on MSMEs to improve product quality, adopt technology, develop skills and increase production capacity. These areas were identified as important for enterprises seeking to compete in domestic and international markets.
The government is also taking steps to improve industrial estates in and around Hyderabad, Sridhar Babu said. The statement did not provide details of the estates covered, the nature of the proposed improvements, the investment involved or a completion schedule.
Industrial estates provide the physical setting in which many small and medium businesses operate, making their infrastructure and administrative support relevant to the effectiveness of any MSME policy. The Minister’s remarks linked the proposed institutional measures with improvements to these estates, but the release did not specify whether the work would involve roads, utilities, common facilities, land management or other services.
The proposed centre could provide a single institutional platform for technology support, market access and investment connections, while the monthly grievance day could address the administrative problems faced by enterprises. The announcement, however, did not identify the location of the centre, its funding structure, participating agencies or the number of businesses expected to use it.
The next steps will depend on the government detailing the centre of excellence, notifying the monthly grievance mechanism and specifying the improvement programme for industrial estates around Hyderabad. No implementation timeline was announced at the summit.
