Tata Steel Colors has launched its Colorcoat range of pre-painted steel products in India, targeting infrastructure and building applications that require durable roofing and wall-cladding solutions. The products will be manufactured at Jamshedpur and sold in both domestic and international markets.
The launch brings Tata Steel’s globally recognised Colorcoat range, developed with European expertise, to the Indian market. The company said the coating technology has been customised for India’s hot and warm climates and is designed to combine durability, aesthetics, thermal performance and sustainability.
According to Tata Steel Colors, the range offers colour and gloss retention, corrosion protection, cut-edge protection, scratch resistance and long-term aesthetic performance. These characteristics are relevant to building-envelope components, where roofing and cladding must withstand weather exposure while meeting the visual and functional requirements of large infrastructure and commercial projects.
The products are intended for a wide range of applications, including metro and transit infrastructure, ports, warehouses, distribution centres, manufacturing and automotive facilities, commercial spaces, defence projects and modern institutional buildings. The company’s positioning of the range across these sectors reflects the growing use of pre-painted steel in projects that require factory-finished materials rather than coatings applied after installation.
Pre-painted steel is produced by applying protective and decorative coatings to steel before it is formed into roofing or cladding components. In construction, the approach can provide a consistent finish and reduce the need for on-site painting, although project performance ultimately depends on product specification, installation quality and the conditions in which the material is used.
Praveen V Thampi, Managing Director of Tata Steel Colors, said the company aims to provide Indian infrastructure with access to advanced global solutions and help set new standards for projects in the country. The company did not provide production capacity, pricing details or a specific sales timeline in the announcement.
The Jamshedpur manufacturing base will serve both Indian and overseas markets, according to the company. Further details on market volumes, customer projects and the range’s contribution to Tata Steel Colors’ overall business were not included in the announcement.
