SAIL Awards ₹854.57-Crore Pellet Plant Works at Burnpur

SAIL pellet plant project at the IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal

Engineering solutions provider SEPC has secured an ₹854.57-crore contract from steel major SAIL for work at the IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal, in a project that includes civil and structural works for a pellet plant.

SEPC said in a statement that the contract covers the balance of plant, or BOP, for the pellet plant at SAIL’s Burnpur facility. The contract was formally signed on October 8, 2026. The company announced the development on Saturday.

The project places civil and structural construction within a larger industrial plant package. SEPC described the assignment as part of its turnkey engineering work for power, water infrastructure, and process and metallurgy facilities. The company did not disclose a project completion timeline or provide further details on the planned capacity of the pellet plant in the statement cited by PTI.

The contract adds to SEPC’s order position at a time when the company says its consolidated order book has crossed ₹10,000 crore. The order-book figure includes the company’s wider business in turnkey solutions across power, water infrastructure, and process and metallurgy, rather than only its work for SAIL.

At Burnpur, the assignment is linked to the SAIL-IISCO Steel Plant, one of the industrial facilities operated by the steel major. The inclusion of balance-of-plant, civil and structural works means the contract extends beyond the supply of a single piece of equipment and includes construction-related components required for the pellet plant package.

The announcement provides no details on the financing structure, the number of workers expected to be engaged, procurement milestones or the anticipated effect of the project on production at the Burnpur plant. It also does not specify whether the ₹854.57-crore value includes taxes or how the order will be recognised in SEPC’s financial statements.

SEPC said the contract had been signed with SAIL for the Burnpur project, while the company’s consolidated order book has now crossed the ₹10,000-crore mark. Further project milestones, including execution timelines and commissioning details, were not stated in the announcement.
