Tamil Nadu will begin a special revision of its electoral rolls on November 12, with applications for adding, deleting or correcting names accepted until December 11, Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said. The final voter list is scheduled to be published on January 4, following the completion of claims and objections.
The revision will use January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date. Residents who want to add their names, remove entries, correct details or change their address can submit applications during the revision period. The process will cover the publication of a draft roll, public claims and objections, and disposal of applications before the final list is released.
According to the schedule, polling stations will be revised and rationalised by November 2. An integrated draft electoral roll will be published on November 12. Residents can submit claims or complaints until December 11, and authorities are expected to decide on the applications by December 28.
Applications can be submitted on government working days at the offices of the Booth Level Officer, Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer. The applications may also be submitted during special camps organised as part of the revision exercise.
Applicants seeking to add a name to the electoral roll must provide documents supporting their residential address and age. The Chief Electoral Officer’s statement did not specify the individual documents required for every category of applicant, so residents may need to confirm the applicable proof requirements with the relevant election office or booth-level official before submitting a form.
The Election Commission’s voter portal, voterportal.eci.gov.in, and the ECINET mobile application will also accept applications. The online channels are intended to provide an alternative to in-person submission for residents seeking changes to their electoral details.
The schedule also covers people who will complete 18 years of age on January 1, April 1, July 1 or October 1. Those who reach the age of 18 on any of these qualifying dates, as well as people whose names are not currently on the electoral roll, can apply for inclusion.
The revision is significant for residents who have moved, newly reached voting age or found errors in their electoral details. It also provides a formal period for raising objections and requesting corrections before the final roll is issued. Applications will be processed by election officials, with decisions due by December 28 and the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on January 4.
