South Delhi Gets ₹62,000 Crore Push for Roads, Water and Metro

South Delhi development projects with a major road corridor and urban infrastructure under construction

South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri has claimed that ₹62,000 crore has been provided for development works across the constituency, covering roads, flyovers, sewerage, water supply, PNG pipelines, metro infrastructure, tunnels and an ecological park. The announcement was made during an event linked to the service campaign marking 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public life.

Bidhuri said the funding had been made available by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for the overall development of the South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. He presented an account of service-related work undertaken during the preceding month and outlined infrastructure projects either completed or under implementation.

According to the MP, around ₹6,500 crore has been made available for underground reservoirs and sewerage infrastructure in the constituency. The proposed works include new underground reservoirs in Sangam Vihar, Chhatarpur and Badarpur, intended to address drinking-water shortages in these areas. The report did not provide project-wise timelines, implementing agencies or details of the funding approvals.

The announcement also highlighted an 885-acre ecological park in Badarpur. Bidhuri described it as Asia’s largest eco park and said the site had previously been used as an ash dump. The report did not specify the park’s construction status, operating agency, completion schedule or the facilities planned for public use.

Another major project cited at the event was a six-lane highway connecting Sarai Kale Khan with Kalindi Kunj, Mithapur, Jaitpur and Sohna before linking to the Mumbai-Vadodara highway. Bidhuri put the cost of this project at ₹8,000 crore. The report did not state whether the figure covers the entire corridor or a specific section, nor did it provide details of land acquisition, construction stages or the opening schedule.

The list of works also included road-network improvements, flyovers, sewer lines, water pipelines, PNG pipelines, metro expansion and tunnels. However, the announcement did not identify the individual metro corridors, tunnel projects or road packages covered by the claimed ₹62,000 crore allocation. It also did not provide a consolidated government document breaking down the total by project, department or funding source.

The infrastructure claims are significant for a constituency that includes areas such as Sangam Vihar, Chhatarpur and Badarpur, where water availability, sewerage and transport connectivity are recurring public-service concerns. The proposed underground reservoirs and sewer networks are directly linked to basic service delivery, while the highway and metro-related works would affect regional mobility if implemented as described.

The event was attended by विधायक Chandan Kumar Chaudhary, BJP South Delhi district president Maya Singh Bisht and media chief S Rahul. Further clarity on the project list, expenditure already incurred, implementation agencies and completion milestones is expected through the relevant government departments and project authorities.
