RTE Assistance Denied to 54 Ahmedabad Children; School Fined

RTE assistance Ahmedabad case involving a school and government education portal

A school in Ahmedabad has been fined ₹10,000 after failing to enter 54 children admitted under the Right to Education (RTE) scheme on the government’s RTE DBMS portal, leaving them without the annual assistance available under the programme.

According to the Ahmedabad city District Education Officer (DEO), Solaris Public School in the Solа area did not complete the mandatory portal entries for the children. The children, studying in different classes, had secured admission under the RTE quota but were unable to receive the government assistance because their details were not uploaded.

Under the scheme, children admitted through RTE are eligible for annual financial assistance of ₹3,000 from the government. Schools are required to enter the relevant student information on the RTE portal so that the assistance can be processed. The DEO office said the failure to make the entries was identified after a parent complained that the children had not received the assistance.

The complaint led to an inquiry by the DEO office. The investigation found that Solaris Public School had not entered the RTE students’ details on the portal, according to the report. The school was subsequently penalised ₹10,000 under provisions of the RTE Act.

The case highlights how an administrative step at the school level can determine whether eligible children receive a government benefit. Although the 54 children had already been admitted and were attending the school under the RTE provision, the missing portal entries prevented their assistance from being released.

The DEO has also directed the school to complete the entries for all 54 children. The assistance will be provided only after the students’ details are entered on the portal, according to the report. The action therefore combines a financial penalty with an order to correct the documentation failure.

The Ahmedabad incident comes as the state has reportedly paid ₹3,000 assistance to more than 80,000 children admitted under RTE during the current year. The scale of that payment makes the accuracy and timely completion of school-level entries an important part of the scheme’s delivery system.

The immediate next step is for Solaris Public School to upload the details of the affected children on the RTE DBMS portal. The children’s eligibility for assistance will be processed after the entries are completed.
