Land acquisition for the 161.5-km northern section of Hyderabad’s Regional Ring Road has been completed, Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said, clearing the way for fresh tenders for the proposed six-lane highway. The Rs 12,073-crore Hyderabad–Vijayawada corridor is still awaiting final clearance from the Centre and Union Cabinet approval.
The northern section will connect Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Jagdevpur, Bhongir and Choutuppal. According to the minister, two earlier rounds of tenders had been cancelled because land acquisition was incomplete. With the acquisition process now finished, the state plans to invite fresh tenders, while the detailed project report is nearing completion.
The minister said he had asked Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite financial clearances and Union Cabinet approval for the northern section. He also sought equal priority for the southern stretch of the Regional Ring Road, which the state government considers important for Bharat Future City, industrial parks and connecting radial roads.
The latest development places the project at a transition point between preparatory work and construction procurement. Land acquisition had been identified as a direct obstacle to the earlier tendering process. The next steps, as outlined by the minister, are the completion of the DPR, fresh tendering and the receipt of final approvals before work can begin.
The minister said the state government aimed to complete the tendering process within two months and start work after the required clearances are obtained. The supplied report does not provide a revised construction completion schedule or details of the packages to be tendered.
The minister also said Telangana had secured approval for expanding National Highway-65 along the Hyderabad–Vijayawada–Machilipatnam corridor into a six-lane highway with two additional service lanes. That project has cleared the technical committee stage and is awaiting Union Cabinet approval.
The two road projects are being advanced alongside a proposed 52-km elevated corridor between Mannanur and Srisailam along National Highway-765. The minister said the DPR for the Rs 7,600-crore corridor had been prepared and that the project would improve access for pilgrims travelling to Srisailam while minimising ecological damage to the Nallamala forest and tiger reserve.
For the Regional Ring Road, the immediate milestone is the state’s proposed fresh tender invitation after land acquisition has been completed. Further progress will depend on the Centre’s financial clearances and final approvals, according to the minister.
