RK Puram Park Death Raises Questions as Police Await Post-Mortem Report

RK Puram park death investigation scene in a Delhi public park

A Blinkit delivery driver was found unconscious in Som Vihar’s Tikona Park in Delhi’s RK Puram on Saturday morning and was later declared dead at Safdarjung Hospital, while police began investigating the circumstances of the death. A packet containing a white powder-like substance was recovered from the site, but its nature and role in the incident have not been established.

According to the report by Jagran – New Delhi, police received information at about 8.30 am that a man was lying unconscious in the park. A police team reached the location and called the crime team to examine the scene. The man was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The deceased was identified as Vivek, a vehicle driver associated with Blinkit and a resident of Gurugram. Preliminary information indicated that he had come to RK Puram a few days earlier to stay with his maternal uncle. Police recovered a packet marked as containing 56 per cent aluminium phosphide powder from the area and seized it for examination.

Officials have not confirmed the cause of death. The powder-like material is being examined to determine its nature and possible use, while the post-mortem report is expected to establish the medical cause of death. Police said the final circumstances would become clear only after the forensic and post-mortem processes are completed.

During questioning, family members reportedly told police that Vivek had been experiencing depression and had a history of substance use. These details form part of the initial inquiry and do not by themselves establish the cause of death. Police are also questioning people living or present near the park as part of the investigation.

The incident places attention on the conditions faced by delivery and other platform-based workers who often operate across city boundaries and may rely on temporary accommodation or extended family networks. In this case, the deceased was identified as a Gurugram resident who had recently travelled to another part of Delhi, but the supplied report does not establish whether his work schedule or employment conditions were connected to the death.

The report also mentioned a separate death in the city a day earlier. A 26-year-old man identified as Sandeep, described as a rickshaw driver from Moladband village, was found hanging from a tree near a canal while travelling from Mithapur towards Lohia Bridge. Police were reported to be examining the case and questioning people in the surrounding area. The two incidents are not reported as connected.

In the RK Puram case, police investigation, forensic examination and the post-mortem report will determine what happened in the park. Authorities have not announced any conclusion on whether the death was accidental, self-inflicted or caused by another factor.
