Delhi traffic restrictions will block private vehicles from entering CR Park and Greater Kailash-2 between 4 pm and midnight every day until October 20, as Durga Puja celebrations are expected to draw large crowds to the two South Delhi neighbourhoods. The traffic police have advised visitors to use public transport, particularly the Delhi Metro, to avoid congestion and parking difficulties.
The restrictions apply to devotees arriving in private vehicles for celebrations in CR Park and Greater Kailash-2. According to the traffic advisory reported by Jagran, traffic pressure is expected to rise on eight major roads and on internal streets in the two residential areas during the evening period.
The affected corridors include the Outer Ring Road stretch between Vasant Vihar and the Modi Mill flyover, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg near CR Park, and August Kranti Marg between Ring Road and the Outer Ring Road. Traffic may also be affected on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road between Khanpur and Jamia Hamdard.
Parts of Guru Ravidas Marg, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg and Josip Broz Tito Marg are also expected to experience disruption. The advisory cautions that traffic movement could remain affected on the surrounding roads as well as within CR Park and Greater Kailash-2, where several Durga Puja venues are located on internal residential streets.
The traffic management challenge is linked to the location and layout of the celebration venues. The pandals are situated within residential colonies where roads are relatively narrow and available space for visitor parking is limited. The arrival of large numbers of private vehicles could therefore lead to queues, blocked access and parking-related congestion in the neighbourhoods.
For visitors travelling to CR Park, the traffic police have recommended using the Delhi Metro and getting down at Greater Kailash or Nehru Enclave stations. From these stations, visitors can continue on foot to the pandals. The advisory is intended to reduce the number of private vehicles entering the congested residential areas during the evening celebrations.
The restrictions will remain in force each day from 4 pm to midnight until October 20. Traffic conditions on the listed roads and the internal streets of CR Park and Greater Kailash-2 are expected to remain sensitive during those hours as the celebrations continue.
