Rajasthan Voter Registration Drive Adds 2.4 Lakh Names After SIR

Rajasthan added 2,40,534 voters to its electoral rolls between October 1 and October 20, as the Election Commission of India’s special registration campaign works to enrol first-time voters and restore eligible citizens left out during the earlier Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

The campaign received 7,78,147 Form-6 applications during the period, according to figures cited by Rajasthan chief electoral officer Naveen Mahajan. The exercise will continue until October 31, with Booth Level Officers visiting households to identify new voters and eligible residents whose names are not on the rolls.

The campaign covers two main groups: first-time voters aged 18 and 19, and eligible citizens aged 20 and above who are not currently listed on the electoral rolls. Of the total applications, 4,30,701 came from the 18–19 age group. Authorities added 1,39,972 names from this category.

A further 3,47,446 applications were received from citizens aged 20 and above, of which 1,00,562 names were added. The enrolment of older applicants is significant for the administration because it indicates that the campaign is also reaching eligible residents who were left out during the SIR process, rather than serving only as a first-time registration exercise.

The additions come after 31.3 lakh voters were deleted from Rajasthan’s electoral rolls during the SIR process completed earlier this year. Rajasthan has an electorate of about 5.1 crore, making the subsequent registration drive an important administrative exercise to identify eligible citizens and update electoral records.

Mahajan said the campaign was designed to cover both first-time voters and citizens aged 20 years and above whose names were missing from the rolls. The door-to-door component places Booth Level Officers at the centre of the process, requiring them to identify potential voters, assist with applications and support the verification and enrolment process at the local level.

Several districts reported strong progress in processing applications from first-time voters. Bundi, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Alwar, Tonk, Balotra, Churu, Kotputli-Behror and Sawai Madhopur were among the districts recording the highest percentage of processed applications in this category.

Eligible residents can continue to apply for enrolment after the special campaign concludes on October 31. The current figures, however, cover applications received and names added between October 1 and October 20, while the campaign remains underway across the state.
