Pune traffic changes have come into effect around Market Yard, Swargate and Bibwewadi for work on the Swargate–Katraj underground metro project. The temporary restrictions began on Monday, October 19, and will remain in place until further orders, according to information issued by the traffic branch and reported by Civic Mirror – Pune.
The changes are intended to manage vehicle movement and prevent congestion in the Market Yard area while construction activity continues. Motorists travelling through the affected roads have been advised to check the alternative routes before leaving, as several turning movements have been restricted.
Vehicles travelling from Upper Bibwewadi towards Pushpamangal Chowk through Chandralok Chowk will not be permitted to turn right towards Swargate, Market Yard and Utsav Hotel. Such vehicles must turn left, travel past the Tanishq showroom, take a U-turn near Aranyeshwar bus stop and proceed towards Swargate.
Traffic travelling from Swargate on Pune–Satara Road, as well as vehicles travelling from Market Yard towards Satara, Katraj and Bibwewadi, will be diverted through the side of Wellness Medical Store and Bhapkar Petrol Pump. These vehicles will then be routed via Pushpamangal Chowk towards Katraj and Upper Bibwewadi.
A right turn from Pushpamangal Chowk towards Market Yard and Utsav Hotel Chowk has also been prohibited. Vehicles approaching from Market Yard and the Utsav Hotel Chowk will not be allowed to turn right towards Swargate.
The restrictions alter several short connections between Market Yard, Swargate, Bibwewadi and the Pune–Satara Road. For drivers who usually use the direct turns, the permitted alternatives involve additional movement through Aranyeshwar bus stop, Pushpamangal Chowk or Vakhar Mahamandal Chowk. The traffic branch has therefore advised motorists to follow on-ground signs and instructions from traffic personnel while travelling through the area.
Vehicles coming from Market Yard may proceed to their destinations through Vakhar Mahamandal Chowk. Another permitted option is to travel via Pushpamangal Chowk, the Tanishq showroom and Aranyeshwar bus stop before taking a U-turn. Motorists may also use Vakhar Mahamandal Chowk to reach their intended destinations.
The diversions are connected to construction of the underground metro link between Swargate and Katraj. The route-level restrictions will continue until further orders, with the traffic branch’s instructions determining movement through the affected junctions during the work period.
