Pune Protest Road Blockade: Police Book 15 in Navi Peth

Pune protest road blockade case involving police action in Navi Peth

Vishrambaug police have registered a case against 15 people over an alleged unauthorised protest and road blockade outside Indulal Complex on Shastri Road in Navi Peth, Pune, citing traffic disruption and violations of prohibitory orders.

According to the FIR reported by Pune Mirror, the group assembled at the location despite restrictions on public demonstrations and allegedly obstructed public traffic, causing congestion and disruption in the surrounding area. Police have invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Police Act in the case.

The police complaint states that permission for a planned agitation on October 2 was no longer valid after the protest was called off. The organisers were reportedly informed about the cancellation and issued a notice. Police allege that the group later gathered in Navi Peth and proceeded with the demonstration despite the restrictions in force.

The FIR refers to prohibitory orders issued under the Maharashtra Police Act and Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The orders restricted protests, rallies, public meetings and road blockades in designated parts of the city during the specified period.

Those named in the complaint include student representatives Pramod Patil, Akshay Kamble and Aniket Deshmane, along with Pravin Mahadev Patil, Hrishikesh Gangurde, Priyanka Chaudhary, Nitin Gite, Somnath Chavan, Omkar Patil, Gajanan Shelke, Ajit Kakade, Siddharth Panchange, Sanket Kanase, Siddharth Jambhulkar and Sahebrao Shirsagar.

The case has been registered under Sections 189(2), 189(3), 189(5), 126(2), 223, 270 and 292 of the BNS, as well as Sections 37(1), 37(3), 135, 112 and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act, according to the FIR. The provisions cited relate to unlawful assembly, alleged obstruction, disobedience of official orders and other offences listed by the police in the complaint.

The development follows earlier discussions between student representatives and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over their demands. The organisers had reportedly informed police that the October 2 agitation was being withdrawn after the meeting. The present FIR, however, concerns the subsequent gathering in Navi Peth and the alleged breach of restrictions.

The allegations against the 15 named individuals have not been established in court and remain subject to investigation and due legal process. Police Inspector (Crime) Vikas Ningardiye of Vishrambaug police station is handling the investigation.
