Mumbai Police have formed 15 teams to investigate a firing incident in Juhu involving actor Tiger Shroff, while the Mumbai Crime Branch has joined the probe after his driver sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand, according to a report citing ANI.
Police have recorded the statement of the driver, identified as Firdous. Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg said unidentified individuals opened fire as Shroff was leaving a football club in his car at around 7 pm on Sunday. The incident took place in Mumbai’s Juhu area.
The actor escaped gunshot injuries, while his driver was struck by bullets, according to the report. The account also states that two people, including the driver, sustained injuries in the incident. Police and Crime Branch officers are investigating the circumstances of the firing and the identity of those responsible.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Shroff’s residence on Sunday night to enquire about his wellbeing and assure the family of the state government’s support. Photographs from the residence showed Shroff with dressings on his shoulder and chest and a bandage on his right arm. His mother, Ayesha Shroff, was also present during the meeting.
After meeting the actor, Shinde told the media that Shroff had suffered injuries to his hand caused by gunpowder and shards of glass. He said five rounds had been fired and that the actor was safe, while describing the incident as condemnable. Shinde also said the government would take steps to ensure the family’s safety.
“This is a major incident five rounds were fired but fortunately he was safe. His driver sustained injuries and the incident is condemnable,” Shinde said, according to ANI. He added that both Shroff and his mother were shaken and referred to what he described as open threats directed at public figures.
Shinde said the government would not tolerate threats or attempts to intimidate people. He also referred to gang violence in Mumbai during the 1990s and said the police had brought such activity under control in 1995.
The formation of 15 investigation teams brings together a broad police response involving Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch. The teams are expected to examine the circumstances of the shooting, record statements and establish who carried out the firing. The investigation remains underway.
