Kasimedu traffic diversions will be enforced for 15 days from October 1 while Chennai authorities repair a damaged sewage pipeline at the junction of S N Chetty Road and Jeevarathinam Road, the traffic police said. The restrictions will alter routes for vehicles travelling between Ennore and Parrys through one of the city’s busy northern corridors.
Buses and heavy vehicles travelling towards Ennore on the outgoing side will be diverted through Jeevarathinam Road, VP Koil Street and TH Road. They will reach their destinations through the TH Road toll plaza junction. Two-wheelers and light motor vehicles travelling in the same direction will follow the same route before taking a U-turn near Metro Rail Pillar No. 12 on TH Road and proceeding through Balakrishna Street.
The arrangements are intended to keep traffic moving while work is carried out at the sewage pipeline junction near Kasimedu signal. The traffic police have not announced a separate closure period beyond the 15-day diversion window stated for the repairs.
Vehicles travelling from Ennore towards Parrys will also face a route change on the incoming side. This diversion will apply to two-wheelers, light motor vehicles, buses and heavy vehicles. They will be moved to the opposite carriageway at the S N Chetty Road–Power Kuppam junction, located opposite the Muslim burial ground.
After shifting to the opposite carriageway, vehicles will turn left and continue through the S N Chetty Road–Kasimedu signal junction towards their destinations. The arrangement places traffic management around the work site and directs vehicles through existing connecting roads rather than allowing them to pass directly through the affected junction.
The diversion affects both directions of travel and includes separate routing instructions for vehicles approaching Ennore and those coming towards Parrys. Motorists using Jeevarathinam Road, VP Koil Street, TH Road, Balakrishna Street and the S N Chetty Road corridor will need to follow traffic personnel and temporary arrangements during the repair period. The traffic police have requested motorists to cooperate with the diversions while the sewage pipeline repairs are completed.
