Jharkhand’s electoral roll revision crossed 14 lakh digitised applications on Friday, with new enrolment requests accounting for the largest share as the claims and objections window moves towards its October 31 deadline, according to figures released by the office of the chief electoral officer on Saturday.
The cumulative number of applications rose to 14,01,009 from 13,92,763 till Thursday, after 8,246 applications were added in a day under the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The latest additions included 5,612 Form-6 applications for new enrolment, 266 Form-7 applications and objections seeking deletion of names, and 2,368 Form-8 applications for corrections or shifting of entries.
No new Form-6A application for overseas electors was digitised on Friday. Form-6 applications for fresh enrolment made up the bulk of the cumulative total, reaching 8,43,064. Form-8 applications stood at 5,35,868, while Form-7 applications and objections seeking deletion totalled 21,958. The number of Form-6A applications remained unchanged at 119.
The figures were released as electors approach the deadline to submit claims and objections. Applications can be filed for fresh enrolment, deletion-related action, correction of details or shifting of entries until October 31, according to the report. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 30.
The latest bulletin provides the number of applications digitised but does not give a consolidated account of how many cases have been disposed of, how many hearings have been completed or how many applications remain pending. That distinction is important because digitisation records the processing pipeline, but does not by itself show the final status of an elector’s request.
Chief electoral officer K Ravi Kumar said data on notices issued over discrepancies and cases disposed of after hearings was also being digitised. “A clear picture will emerge in another seven to eight days, tentatively by Oct 26,” he said.
The next update is expected to provide more information on the scrutiny stage, including notices and disposal after hearings. The claims and objections process will remain open until October 31, followed by publication of the final electoral roll on November 30.
