Jamshedpur truckers blocked Bhuiyadih Chowk on Saturday to protest repeated thefts from parked vehicles, disrupting traffic on the Inter State Bus Terminal–Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital road and triggering a jam that stretched about 2 km to Golmuri Chowk.
The blockade followed the alleged theft of galvanised metal wire, used for ceiling work, from a parked truck along the Bhuiyadih–Subarnarekha crematorium lane in the early hours. Truck operators said the incident was part of a wider pattern, claiming that automobile parts and other goods had been stolen from vehicles parked along the stretch in recent months.
The protest brought traffic movement around Bhuiyadih Chowk and the Golmuri-Bhuiyadih route to a standstill. According to the report, the blockade continued for about two hours before local police persuaded the truckers to clear the road after assuring them that steps would be taken to address their concerns.
The disruption affected a key road connecting the ISBT and MGM Medical College and Hospital area. Vehicles remained held up as the protest occupied Bhuiyadih Chowk, while the traffic queue extended towards Golmuri Chowk. Vehicular movement returned to normal after the blockade was lifted.
Truck operators said they had repeatedly complained to the police about thefts from parked trucks but had not seen effective action. Their concerns relate particularly to vehicles stationed overnight along vulnerable stretches near the crematorium lane and Bhuiyadih Chowk, where transport vehicles remain parked for extended periods.
Faguni Paswan, officer-in-charge of Sitaramdera police station, said surveillance would be strengthened in the area. She also said night patrolling would be intensified to prevent further thefts from parked trucks, particularly along the stretches identified as vulnerable by the transporters.
The incident has linked a local security concern with a wider mobility disruption: a protest over the protection of parked commercial vehicles rapidly affected traffic on a road serving important transport and healthcare destinations. The immediate resolution came through a police assurance, with the next operational steps centred on stronger surveillance and increased night patrols along the Bhuiyadih route.
