The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) seized 12 unauthorised motors connected to drinking-water pipelines in Vivekanandanagar Colony under the Kukatpally zone during a special inspection on Thursday.
The inspection was carried out by HMWS&SB vigilance officials in Division 22 of the Gayathrinagar ward between 8 am and 10 am, according to the board. The motors were allegedly being used to draw water directly from the supply pipelines.
The Hyderabad water board said unauthorised motors can reduce pressure in the network and affect supplies to other consumers. Direct extraction from pipelines can allow individual connections to draw water at the expense of nearby households, particularly in areas where distribution pressure is already uneven.
The action was part of an inspection drive intended to identify and remove illegal motor installations on drinking-water lines. The board said it would continue such inspections in order to curb unauthorised withdrawals and support the equitable distribution of water.
The seizure places the focus on the way household-level devices can affect a larger municipal supply network. While the inspection took place in one colony in the Kukatpally zone, the board’s warning applies to consumers using unauthorised motors to draw water directly from public supply pipelines.
HMWS&SB warned that action would be taken against consumers who violate the prescribed rules. The latest inspection follows the board’s stated plan to continue enforcement operations against illegal motors and protect water availability for other consumers in the network.
The board’s next step is to continue inspections in areas under its jurisdiction and take action against further violations identified during those operations.
