Hyderabad Dandiya Event Turns Fatal as Lighting Frame Collapses

Emergency response at a Hyderabad dandiya event after a metal lighting frame collapsed

A student died and 17 others were injured after a metal frame installed for lighting collapsed during a dandiya event at MVSR Engineering College in Nadergul village, Adibatla, on Saturday evening, prompting the Telangana chief minister to order strict action against those responsible.

The incident occurred at about 7.30 pm on the college campus, where a large number of students had gathered for the event. A stage had been arranged in one part of the ground, while a separate metal frame carrying decorative lighting had been installed at another location. That frame suddenly fell on students participating in the celebrations.

The collapse caused panic on the campus. College staff and students shifted the injured to different hospitals after realising that several people had been caught in the incident. The deceased student was identified in preliminary information as Sona, according to Adibatla inspector S Ramesh. Police also received information that another girl had been moved to a private hospital, with her condition being ascertained.

The remaining 17 injured people were reported to be safe after suffering minor injuries. The report did not provide details about the design, installation or inspection of the metal frame, or identify the agency responsible for putting it up.

Chief minister A Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the student’s death and offered condolences to the family, according to a statement from his office. He instructed officials to ensure better medical treatment for the injured students and directed the police to identify those responsible and take strict action.

The incident places attention on the safety arrangements used for temporary structures at large college and community events. Such installations can involve stages, lighting frames and other temporary equipment within spaces where crowds gather, making responsibility for setup and supervision central to any official inquiry. The supplied report did not state whether the college or police had begun a formal investigation, nor did it provide details of any arrests or cases.

Police and the college authorities are expected to establish how the frame was installed and why it collapsed. The immediate official steps announced were the provision of medical care to the injured, identification of those responsible and police action.
