Hinjawadi Metro Connectivity Plan Adds 21 Roads Around 8 Stations

Hinjawadi metro connectivity is set to receive a last-mile road network linking eight stations of the Pune Metro corridor to the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, under a plan being prepared by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

The plan covers 21 roads with a combined length of about 20 kilometres. It includes widening and upgrading existing roads as well as developing new internal links around the metro route. The objective is to allow commuters to reach the stations more quickly once metro services begin on the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar corridor, according to a report by Loksatta – Pune.

The main road running below the metro alignment through the Hinjawadi IT Park is about 10 kilometres long and falls within the jurisdictions of both MIDC and PMRDA. Eight metro stations are located along this stretch. The agencies have prepared a road network plan for areas extending between 500 metres and 1.5 kilometres around each station.

The proposed network is intended to address the connection between the stations and the internal areas of the technology park. The plan covers road improvements in and around the IT park rather than relying only on the main corridor for access. The reported works include road widening, upgrades to existing routes and construction of new roads.

According to the report, the road plan has been prepared ahead of the expected start of metro services in the coming months. The Maharashtra government has announced an allocation of Rs 426 crore for the works, and the projects are expected to be taken up on an urgent basis, the report said, citing sources.

The station-wise plan cited in the report includes the Megapolis Circle station, where the proposed connections cover a road in IT Park Phase 3, the road leading towards the cricket ground, Bhoirwadi Road and internal roads in Phase 3. Together, these routes are expected to cover about four kilometres.

At the Quadrant Circle station, the plan includes two roads in Phase 3 and additional internal roads, with a combined length of about 3.6 kilometres. The available details in the report do not specify the alignment, length or implementation schedule for the remaining station areas.

Hinjawadi has developed as one of Pune’s most important employment districts, but access within the technology park is divided between multiple administrative jurisdictions. The proposed arrangement places MIDC and PMRDA at the centre of the road and station-access works, making coordination between the two agencies important for implementation.

The road network is being planned as a supporting system for the metro corridor. Its effectiveness will depend on how quickly the connecting roads are completed and whether the routes provide direct access to workplaces and surrounding residential areas. The next stated step is to begin the identified works in the coming months, ahead of the expected launch of metro services.
