Gurugram waterlogging disrupted traffic across key corridors and residential neighbourhoods after heavy rain in the early hours of Monday, with commuters facing delays at MG Road, IFFCO Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk. Faridabad also reported water accumulation, although the district administration drained several affected roads within hours.
Gurugram received around 40 mm of rainfall, while Faridabad recorded 12 mm, according to a report by Millennium Post. The downpour brought the average temperature down to around 28 degrees Celsius, but created significant difficulties for people travelling to offices, colleges and schools on the first working day of the week.
Several cars and auto-rickshaws stalled in accumulated water and had to be pushed to the roadside. On Mehrauli Road, one side of the carriageway towards the bus stand was choked by waterlogging, while heavy traffic built up on the opposite side.
The disruption extended into densely populated parts of Gurugram, including Khandsa Road, Shivaji Park, Jyoti Park, Sheetla Colony and Sheetla Mata Road. Water remained on several roads and at intersections in the city until the afternoon, affecting both older neighbourhoods and newer residential areas.
In some locations, water rose high enough to submerge more than half of two-wheelers parked on the streets. The combination of inundated roads, stalled vehicles and slowed traffic created additional congestion at major junctions as commuters attempted to navigate the affected routes.
The contrasting response in the two cities highlighted the immediate operational importance of drainage during intense rainfall. In Faridabad, the district administration removed accumulated rainwater from roads within hours, while several areas of Gurugram continued to report waterlogging into the afternoon. The report did not provide details of any further clearance schedule or specific remedial measures for the affected Gurugram locations.
