Delhi Education Projects Add 2,000 School Seats and New Skills Hubs

Delhi education projects including a modern government school campus with classrooms and students

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday inaugurated a government school in Dwarka, a 120-seat women’s hostel at Netaji Subhas University of Technology’s East Campus and high-tech training centres at three industrial training institutes as part of the Seva Sankalp Campaign.

The programme also included foundation stones for the G B Pant Integrated College and Polytechnic in Okhla, an Advanced Manufacturing Lab and a Faculty Office Building at NSUT’s main campus. The projects are aimed at expanding school capacity, technical education, skill development and access to employment-linked training in the capital.

The newly inaugurated co-educational senior secondary school in Sector 16B, Dwarka, can accommodate 2,000 students from Classes 6 to 12. Spread across 8,000 square metres, the campus has 75 rooms, including smart classrooms, science laboratories, an information and communication technology laboratory, a library and facilities for sports and music.

At NSUT’s East Campus, the new hostel will accommodate 120 women students. The facility is intended to support students travelling from distant areas to pursue higher education. The inauguration comes as the Delhi government also seeks to incorporate feedback from women students on campus safety, facilities and education quality.

The three Centres of Excellence at ITI Jahangirpuri, ITI Dhirpur and ITI Narela will provide practical training in robotics, industrial automation, digital manufacturing, computer numerical control machining, solar technology and energy efficiency. The Jahangirpuri centre is expected to benefit about 1,000 trainees annually, while the Dhirpur facility is expected to cater to 1,200 trainees.

In Okhla, the proposed G B Pant Integrated College and Polytechnic is planned as a single campus bringing together engineering, vocational education, skill development and research facilities. Its student capacity is expected to rise from around 2,880 to 7,000 once the planned expansion is implemented.

The government also laid the foundation stone for an Advanced Manufacturing Lab at NSUT’s main campus. The facility is expected to provide industry-oriented training to about 2,000 students. The foundation programme further included a Faculty Office Building at the university.

Separately, Gupta held an interactive session with women student representatives from colleges across Delhi. The students raised concerns and offered suggestions related to campus safety, facilities and the quality of education. Gupta said their recommendations would be considered during preparations for the upcoming Youth Policy, pre-budget consultations and regular dialogues with students.

Education Minister Ashish Sood said the government’s focus was to move beyond school infrastructure and connect quality learning and technical training with employment opportunities. The newly inaugurated facilities and projects announced under the campaign therefore combine conventional education infrastructure with specialised vocational and manufacturing training.
