Hyderabad-based GMR Aero Technic has signed a memorandum of understanding with Canada-based Corporation Logic Air Inc. to jointly develop aircraft modification, engineering, certification and component-obsolescence solutions for operators in India and international markets.
The partnership will focus on navigation and operational upgrades for Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft, as well as engine indication system modernisation for ATR and Dash 8 aircraft. The companies will explore modifications that can be carried out during scheduled maintenance, aircraft redelivery programmes and transition checks.
The agreement also covers cabin electrical and structural modifications, additional modifications for the Dash 8 Q400 fleet, freighter conversions and aircraft transition support. These activities are intended to combine Logic Air’s engineering and certification capabilities with GMR Aero Technic’s maintenance, repair and overhaul infrastructure in Hyderabad.
Under the MoU, the companies will explore the validation, adaptation and implementation of eligible Supplemental Type Certificates and modification data developed by Logic Air for aircraft operators in India and overseas. Supplemental Type Certificates provide the technical and regulatory basis for approved aircraft modifications.
Logic Air will contribute expertise in aircraft integration, engineering and certification, including assessments of the applicability of its STCs, certification and validation planning, installation design, testing and continued airworthiness support. GMR Aero Technic will support execution through its MRO infrastructure, installation capabilities and maintenance services.
The collaboration will also address component obsolescence, a challenge for operators maintaining older aircraft types when original equipment or replacement components are no longer readily available. The companies said their work would include on-wing support, training, installation capabilities and long-term maintenance support in India.
The partnership is expected to target airlines, aircraft lessors and cargo operators, particularly in the Middle East and Asia Pacific regions. It will cover aircraft modification and transition requirements connected with maintenance programmes, aircraft redeliveries and changes in operators or configurations.
Ashok Gopinath, president and accountable manager of GMR Aero Technic, said the companies aimed to offer integrated solutions that could be delivered alongside maintenance and transition programmes. “By combining Logic Air’s aircraft modification, engineering and certification expertise with GMR Aero Technic’s MRO infrastructure and execution capabilities, we aim to offer integrated solutions that can be delivered efficiently alongside maintenance and transition programs,” he said.
Prashanth Rajanna, executive director of Strategy and Global Business Development at Logic Air Inc., said the collaboration would create a platform for Canadian aerospace engineering and innovation to support aviation markets in India, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
The MoU covers cooperation between the two companies; the supplied announcement does not specify individual airline contracts, investment commitments or delivery timelines. The next stage will involve identifying eligible modification and certification opportunities for operators, lessors and cargo companies in the targeted markets.
