The Gaur Chowk underpass in Greater Noida West is nearing completion and is being prepared for opening to the public before Diwali, after missing three earlier deadlines because of rain, ramp roofing work and the shifting of underground utility lines.
The 700-metre underpass is being finished with road markings, street lighting, polycarbonate sheet roofing and wall paintings. The interior walls are being decorated with paintings of Lord Buddha and natural landscapes as part of the finishing work.
The project was initially scheduled for completion in January 2026. Its deadline was later moved to June 30 and then August 15, but the work could not be completed on those dates. The delays were attributed to rain, work required to install a roof over the ramps and the relocation of underground utility lines.
A roof is also being installed to prevent rainwater from entering the underpass. According to the report, work on the roofing is nearly complete. The remaining finishing work is being carried out at the site.
The project is estimated to cost around ₹100 crore. Its location at Gaur Chowk places it on an important approach in Greater Noida West, where the underpass is intended to support movement through a busy urban development area. The available report does not provide a revised formal opening date beyond the preparation to open it before Diwali.
N G Ravi Kumar, chief executive officer, said the finishing work was being completed quickly. The remaining work includes completing the visual treatment of the walls, road marking, lighting and other elements required before the facility can be opened for public use.
The underpass will be opened after the finishing and associated site works are completed, with the Greater Noida authority preparing for a pre-Diwali launch.
