Delhi Traffic Police has imposed time-bound traffic restrictions in Chittaranjan Park and Greater Kailash-II during Durga Puja celebrations, warning commuters and devotees of congestion between 4 pm and midnight from 16 to 20 October 2026.
The advisory covers the five-day festival period and asks people travelling through the affected areas to use the Delhi Metro, avoid restricted roads, refrain from unauthorised parking and allow extra time for their journeys. The measures have been announced as large numbers of people are expected to visit pandals, fairs and celebration venues in South Delhi.
According to the advisory, traffic movement will be affected around CR Park and Greater Kailash-II every day from 4 pm to 12 midnight. The Delhi Traffic Police has asked commuters to plan their routes in advance, follow traffic regulations and cooperate with personnel deployed for traffic management.
The roads identified as likely to be affected include the Outer Ring Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, August Kranti Marg and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, among other routes. The source report does not provide a detailed diversion map or list of road closures, but advises travellers to avoid the affected corridors wherever possible.
The restrictions are aimed at managing the additional traffic generated by Durga Puja gatherings. CR Park is one of Delhiās prominent Bengali cultural and festival districts, and the advisory indicates that the expected movement of devotees and visitors will require traffic regulation during the evening and late-night period. Greater Kailash-II has also been included in the affected zone.
For daily commuters, the timing of the restrictions overlaps with the evening travel period. The traffic police has therefore specifically recommended Delhi Metro use as an alternative to road travel. Those who must drive through or near the affected areas have been advised to leave with additional time and avoid parking on roads without authorisation, which the advisory said could worsen congestion.
The announcement also places responsibility on road users to follow directions issued by traffic personnel on duty. It asks commuters to plan journeys before setting out rather than relying only on real-time route changes after entering the affected areas.
The advisory will remain in force daily from 4 pm to midnight through 20 October. Further route-specific instructions, restrictions and traffic directions are to be followed as issued by Delhi Traffic Police personnel during the celebrations.
