Delhi Hospital Baby Theft Triggers Police Hunt After Pharmacy Abduction

Delhi hospital baby theft case at the GTB Hospital pharmacy in East Delhi

Delhi Police have registered a case after a 45-day-old baby was allegedly taken from the pharmacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital in the GTB Enclave area, with investigators searching for the infant and the unidentified woman named in the mother’s complaint.

The incident took place on 15 October after the child’s mother, identified in the complaint as Saloni, brought him to the hospital’s MCH building for a medical consultation. According to the report by Jagran – New Delhi, doctors prescribed medicines for the baby and the mother then went to the hospital pharmacy to purchase them.

The complaint states that the child was with his mother at the pharmacy when a woman wearing a black burqa approached her and began a conversation. The woman allegedly told Saloni that she lived in the C-3 Block of Nand Nagri and asked her for water. While the two women were speaking, the child’s mother noticed at around 12:30 pm that her baby was no longer with her.

The woman who had been speaking to Saloni was also missing from the spot. The mother searched for the child and the woman on her own before informing the police, the report said. The woman’s clothing and the details she allegedly provided about her residence have been included in the complaint.

Saloni lives with her husband, identified as Nitesh, in the Saboli Extension area of Harsh Vihar, according to the report. The family had travelled to GTB Hospital to seek treatment for their infant. The reported sequence places the alleged abduction inside the hospital’s pharmacy area, where patients and attendants typically manage medicines after consultations.

GTB Enclave police have registered a first information report under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and begun the investigation. The section has been cited in the police case concerning the alleged taking of the child. The available report does not provide details of any recovery, arrest or independent confirmation of the suspect’s identity.

The case puts the focus on the immediate safety of patients and attendants in crowded public hospitals, particularly families carrying infants while navigating consultations, prescriptions and medicine purchases. The report, however, does not establish how the child was taken or whether any hospital security measure failed. Those details remain part of the police investigation.

Delhi Police are continuing their search for the missing baby and the unidentified woman. Further updates are expected as investigators examine the complaint and trace the people involved.
