Chilla Border Tightened as Noida Police Screen Delhi-Bound Traffic

Chilla Border security with barricades and police checking vehicles between Noida and Delhi

Security was tightened at the Chilla Border between Noida and Delhi on Saturday ahead of a protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, with police checking vehicles and buses, deploying additional forces and placing around 500 people under preventive detention, according to a report by Navbharat Times – Noida.

Delhi and Noida Police, along with personnel from the Border Security Force, have been deployed at the crossing. Iron and reinforced concrete barricades have been installed, while an order related to Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been displayed at the site.

The barricading and intensive vehicle checks began on Friday night. Gautam Buddh Nagar Police, working with Delhi Police, have been searching buses arriving from outside the district and checking passengers’ identity documents. The additional arrangements were made amid concerns that buses carrying protesters could reach the border.

Police are checking vehicles carrying more than five people and questioning individuals considered suspicious, the report said. Large water tankers, buses, ambulances and cranes have also been positioned at the border. Buses carrying protesters are expected to be turned back from the crossing.

People travelling to Delhi on Saturday may be asked about the purpose of their journey. Those travelling for essential work or emergency services are expected to receive priority, while drivers may be required to explain why they need to enter Delhi. The arrangements could affect traffic movement between Noida and the capital during the security operation.

Around 500 people were placed under preventive detention on Friday ahead of the protest. They include leaders and workers from political parties and different organisations. Police are also monitoring members of the CJP and organisations supporting the demonstration, according to the report.

Security surveillance has been extended to hotels, guest houses and paying guest accommodations in the district. Police are checking whether people from other areas have arrived in Gautam Buddh Nagar to participate in the protest. Social media activity is also being monitored as part of the preventive arrangements.

Three companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary have been deployed in the district. Two companies have arrived from other districts and one is from the local unit. Officials have reviewed security arrangements and directed police teams to maintain surveillance at the border and other sensitive locations.

An order under Section 163 of the BNSS will remain in force across the district from October 10 to October 20 in view of upcoming festivals and examinations. The order prohibits processions, sit-ins and public gatherings without permission. Police have appealed to residents to comply with the order and cooperate in maintaining law and order.
