Chennai hit-and-run crash scene on a Medavakkam road at night

A 36-year-old biryani shop employee was killed after an unidentified vehicle rammed his motorcycle and fled near an Indian Oil petrol bunk on Velachery Main Road in Medavakkam around 12.20 am, according to a report by DT Next.

The deceased was identified as Haris, a native of South Street in Pudhumadam in Ramanathapuram district. He was working at a popular biryani shop in Chennai.

Police said Haris was riding towards Tambaram when a vehicle approaching from behind hit his motorcycle. The impact left him with severe head injuries, and he died at the scene. The report did not identify the vehicle involved or provide details about its make, colour or registration number.

Personnel from the Pallikaranai Traffic Investigation Wing reached the location after receiving information about the crash. Police recovered the body and sent it to Tambaram Government Hospital for a postmortem examination.

The case was registered by the police, who are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle and its driver. The investigation is continuing, and no arrest was reported in the supplied account.

The crash brings attention to the risks faced by two-wheeler users on major roads such as Velachery Main Road, where traffic movement continues into the night and early morning. In this case, the available report does not establish the speed of either vehicle, the road conditions, the presence of street lighting or whether any traffic violation preceded the collision. Those details will depend on the police investigation and CCTV examination.

The immediate investigative task is to trace the vehicle that fled the scene, establish the sequence of events and determine responsibility for the fatal collision. Further action will depend on the evidence collected by the Pallikaranai Traffic Investigation Wing.
