Central Park closure in Delhi’s Connaught Place will prevent general public access on October 16 and 17, according to a public notice issued by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s scheduled “Lehra do Tiranga” march.
The civic body said the park would remain closed “for general public” on both days due to “administrative reasons”. The notice was dated October 15 and issued by the NDMC director. It did not provide further details about the administrative arrangements behind the decision.
The closure covers Central Park in Connaught Place, one of the capital’s prominent public spaces and a location used for gatherings, demonstrations and everyday recreation. Visitors will not be able to access the park during the period specified in the notice.
The CJP has scheduled its “Lehra do Tiranga” march at Central Park on Friday, October 16. The party’s Dipke has called on “patriots” to gather in Delhi with the national flag and has urged similar “tiranga marches” in other cities, according to the report.
The NDMC announcement came amid heightened activity around Connaught Place. A separate report cited by The Hindu showed protesters being detained during a “Tiranga March” by the All India Students’ Federation and the All India Youth Federation from PVR Plaza towards Central Park on October 15. The report identified the incident as occurring in New Delhi and carried a PTI photograph.
The civic notice specifically states that the closure applies to the general public and lasts for two days. It does not announce a wider closure of Connaught Place or specify any change to traffic movement, shops, offices or other commercial activity in the area. No additional operational details were provided by the NDMC in the material available.
For residents, visitors and workers using Connaught Place, the notice changes access to the park during the scheduled march and the following day. The stated closure period ends on October 17, after which the notice does not indicate any continuing restriction.
