Bengaluru University Student Death Triggers Negligence Probe

Bengaluru university administrative block linked to a student death and negligence probe

Police have registered a case against the person in charge of an administrative block at a private university near Nagandenahalli in Bengaluru Rural after a 20-year-old B.Tech student died on Thursday night. The case has been filed under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with causing death by negligence.

The deceased has been identified as S. Varshini, a native of Andhra Pradesh and a third-year B.Tech student. According to a senior police officer quoted by The Hindu, the incident occurred at around 9 p.m. in the university’s administrative block.

Police said no note had been recovered. Investigators have taken Varshini’s books and study materials for examination as part of their effort to establish what may have led to the death.

The police are also examining how Varshini gained access to the administrative block. The officer said it remained unclear how she had been granted entry to the building, making access control and responsibility for the premises part of the investigation.

The student’s parents were reportedly sent a message saying, “I love you, Dad. I love you, Mom.” The message was reported by the officer quoted by The Hindu. Its context and relevance to the investigation have not been established publicly.

The police case is focused on the circumstances surrounding the death and the alleged negligence of the person responsible for the block. The report does not indicate that investigators have reached a final conclusion about the cause or circumstances of the incident.

The case also places attention on safety arrangements in university buildings that may not be part of routine student facilities. The police are expected to examine access procedures, supervision and the responsibilities assigned to the person in charge of the administrative block as the investigation proceeds.
