Air India SATS Airport Services (AISATS) has introduced short-term warehousing near Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru to help freight forwarders and shippers manage temporary cargo storage during high-demand periods.
The service is being offered at the BLR Logistics Park, located near the airport, with rental periods beginning at one day. It covers both general cargo and temperature-controlled consignments requiring cold storage, without requiring customers to sign long-term warehouse leases.
AISATS announced the facility on Wednesday, saying the solution is intended for urgent storage requirements linked to seasonal cargo peaks, project cargo and oversized or specialised consignments. The service is expected to be particularly relevant during periods such as Diwali, Christmas and New Year, when cargo volumes can increase and warehouse availability can become more constrained.
The short-term facility includes 2,000 square feet of space and has a storage capacity of 25 tonnes. It is part of the larger BLR Logistics Park, for which AISATS was selected by Bangalore International Airport Ltd to design, build and operate the facility.
The logistics park began functioning in April and has already reached 75% occupancy, according to AISATS. The company expects occupancy to rise to 90% by the end of the financial year. The park includes a 1.4 lakh square feet general warehouse on the ground floor and another 1.1 lakh square feet on the first floor.
AISATS said the short-term service has already been used for cargo requiring specialised handling. Examples cited by the company include odd-sized medical equipment, special chemicals and pharmaceutical ingredients stored at its common-user cold storage facility.
The arrangement gives cargo users access to storage without committing to the longer rental periods generally associated with warehouse space. For freight forwarders and shippers, this can support consignments that arrive ahead of planned dispatches, require additional handling or cannot immediately move through the airport logistics chain.
The facility also adds a flexible storage option to the logistics infrastructure serving Kempegowda International Airport. Its use will depend on available capacity and the handling requirements of individual consignments, including cargo that needs temperature control or special care.
AISATS is responsible for operating the BLR Logistics Park under its agreement with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. The company’s next operational focus will be to make the short-term warehousing service available to cargo users during seasonal peaks and for specialised shipments requiring temporary storage near the airport.
