Andhra Pradesh Grievance Redressal Gets Naidu’s Accountability Push

Andhra Pradesh grievance redressal review involving officials at the state Secretariat

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to resolve public complaints promptly and made government employees accountable for grievances received through the Public Grievance Redressal System across all 175 Assembly constituencies.

Naidu issued the instructions during a review meeting with Chief Secretary Sai Prasad and senior officials from several departments at the Real-Time Governance Society in the Secretariat on Monday. He asked officials whether government services were reaching people at the ground level and stressed that complaints should not be neglected.

The Chief Minister instructed the Chief Secretary to hold a meeting with district collectors to ensure that complaints received through the Public Grievance Redressal System are addressed efficiently and expeditiously. The stated objective is to provide relief to people affected by unresolved problems.

Naidu also directed the administration to establish accountability among employees and officials responsible for resolving complaints received by nodal officers in the state’s 175 Assembly constituencies. The review placed responsibility for grievance handling across the administrative chain, from constituency-level receipt of complaints to district-level coordination.

The Public Grievance Redressal System is intended to serve as a channel through which residents can bring problems involving government services and departmental administration to the state’s attention. However, the report did not specify the number of complaints currently pending, the average time taken to resolve them, or the department-wise performance of the system.

The Chief Minister’s intervention focused on the gap between the availability of government services and their delivery at the ground level. By asking officials whether services were reaching residents, he linked grievance redressal to the functioning of departments rather than treating complaints only as individual cases.

Naidu also referred to what he described as a misinformation campaign against certain government departments in relation to government orders. He said some orders, particularly those issued by the revenue department, were being intentionally misconstrued and wanted such attempts to be curbed.

The reference to government orders adds an information-management dimension to the grievance review. The administration is therefore expected to address both complaints about public services and confusion surrounding departmental decisions, although the report did not identify the specific orders or explain what corrective communication would be issued.

The next administrative step announced in the report is the Chief Secretary’s meeting with district collectors. Its stated purpose will be to improve the speed and efficiency of grievance resolution and reinforce accountability among officials handling complaints across Andhra Pradesh.
