Ahmedabad Road Accidents Kill Two, Leave Several Injured

Ahmedabad road accident scene near a busy urban crossroads with a damaged two-wheeler and traffic police

Two people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Ahmedabad, including a fatal crash near Karnavati Club involving two sisters travelling to a Garba event, according to a report by Nav Gujarat Samay – Ahmedabad. Police have registered cases and begun investigations into the crashes.

The Karnavati Club accident took place near Karnavati crossroads and the Iskcon Gathiya outlet. Payal Kurdiya, a 27-year-old resident of Chandlodia and a private school teacher, had planned to attend Garba with friends and cousins on the night of October 16. The group travelled towards the club on separate two-wheelers.

Payal’s 25-year-old younger sister, Aarti, was riding an Activa with their 23-year-old cousin Komal as a pillion passenger. While the rest of the group reached the club, they waited for Aarti and Komal. The group later ran towards the crossroads after learning that a crowd had gathered there.

The report said the sisters were found unconscious and seriously injured on the road. People at the location told the family that a truck travelling at high speed had struck the Activa. Komal died at the scene, while Aarti suffered injuries to several parts of her body and was taken to hospital for treatment. The SG-2 Traffic Police registered a case against the truck driver and started further investigation.

In another crash, 72-year-old Hiraben Dahyabhai Parmar, a resident of Amraiwadi, was preparing to travel to Chuda village in Surendranagar for the Ashtami festival. Her 50-year-old son, Rameshbhai Parmar, was taking her on an Activa to the Viratnagar bus stand early on Sunday so that she could continue her journey by bus.

The mother and son were waiting at the bus stand when, according to the report, a car travelling from the Viratnagar side struck them. Rameshbhai died in the crash. The report did not provide further details about Hiraben’s condition.

A third incident was reported near the gate of Alaknanda-Mandakini Society in Shahibaug on Saturday afternoon. A car allegedly travelling at high speed hit three autorickshaws before colliding with an electric pole. Two people were injured in the incident. Police initiated action against the driver, identified in the report as Lavkumar Parmar.

The cases bring together three different road-safety risks in Ahmedabad: collisions involving two-wheelers, vulnerable road users waiting near a bus facility and a multi-vehicle crash involving an electric pole. The police investigations will establish the circumstances of each incident, including the drivers’ conduct and the sequence of the collisions. Further action remains subject to those investigations.
