Four people were killed in three separate road accidents on Ahmedabad’s Ring Road and highway corridors over two days, as police investigated crashes involving a parked container, a trailer truck and a Bolero pickup vehicle during the Navratri period.
The incidents occurred near Sanathal, Odhav and the Aslali-Kamod Circle area on October 11 and October 13. Traffic police registered cases in all three incidents. The crashes highlight the risks created by increased night and early-morning movement, heavy vehicles and vehicles parked without visible safety measures on major urban approaches.
The first crash took place at around 9.15 pm on October 13 on the road from Sanathal towards Ujala, near the railway bridge and opposite the Polaris showroom. According to the complaint registered by SG-2 Traffic Police, a motorcycle collided with the rear of a container truck parked on the public road. The truck allegedly had no safety equipment, reflective markers or parking lights switched on.
The motorcycle riders, Harshadkumar, also known as Ravi Arvindbhai Madhvi, 24, who worked in Moraiya, and his friend Shani Baldevbhai Raval, 20, suffered serious head injuries. Doctors from the 108 emergency service declared both dead at the spot. A complaint filed by Harshad’s younger brother, Nileshkumar Arvindbhai Madhvi, named the Jharkhand-registered container driver Sahebkhan Ajimkhan. Police registered a case and began further investigation.
The second fatal crash was reported at about 8 pm on October 11 on the Ring Road between Odhav and Nikol, in front of a hotel. Shailesh Manabhai Roth, 22, a native of Dungarpur who worked as a construction worker in Ahmedabad, was riding a Splendor motorcycle when it was hit by a Rajasthan-registered trailer truck. The report said the truck’s tyres ran over him, killing him at the scene. The ‘I’ Division Traffic Police registered a case based on a complaint filed by his father, Manabhai Nathabhai Roth.
The third crash occurred on the S.P. Ring Road near the junction between Aslali Circle and Kamod Circle on the morning of October 13. Bhavesh Bholabhai Dudhat, 33, who lived in Lambha-Narol and worked as a plant manager at a company in Kheda, was travelling on an electric two-wheeler to an office meeting in Makarba.
According to the complaint filed by his wife, Manishaben, a Bolero pickup vehicle travelling at high speed struck him from behind. Dudhat suffered a serious injury to the back of his head and died at the site. The Bolero driver fled after the collision. The traffic police registered a case and began efforts to investigate the incident.
The three cases involve separate locations and vehicles, but each occurred on heavily used road corridors linking Ahmedabad’s residential, industrial and peripheral areas. Police investigations are continuing into the circumstances of the crashes, the identities of the drivers and the alleged traffic violations.
