A family returning home after attending garba in Ahmedabad’s Narol area found their house broken into and valuables worth Rs 19.10 lakh missing, prompting a police investigation based partly on surrounding CCTV footage.
The burglary took place at Ranchhodpark on the Isanpur-Vatva Road during the final night of Navratri. According to the complaint, the family had left the house locked while travelling to the Ekka Club near Kankaria Lake to attend garba celebrations.
Mayurbhai Mahendrabhai Panchal, who works as an operator at a private company in Sanand GIDC, left the residence with his family on the night of October 18. The family had locked the metal grille at the main entrance before leaving.
When they returned at around 3 am, they found the main door open. On entering the house, they discovered that a wooden cupboard in the bedroom, a safe and another safe in the prayer room had been opened. Household items were reportedly scattered across the rooms.
The family then found that the locks of the safe compartments had been broken. The stolen property included gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 13.90 lakh and Rs 5.20 lakh in cash, according to the complaint. The jewellery reportedly weighed about 35 tolas and included multiple sets, chains, rings, pendants, gold biscuits and earrings.
The Narol police station has registered a complaint against unidentified burglars. Police have begun collecting and examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the suspects and establish how the burglars entered and left the property.
The reported theft occurred while the family was away for several hours, highlighting the vulnerability of houses left unattended during major public celebrations. The police investigation is continuing, and no arrests or recoveries were reported in the supplied account.
