Jainad police in Telangana’s Adilabad district seized unlicensed explosives worth Rs 20 lakh and arrested six people during a vehicle check at the Pipparwada toll plaza, police said. The consignment included 20,000 electronic detonators and 90 boosters allegedly being transported from Uttar Pradesh for sale to mines and stone crushers.
Adilabad Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said the explosives were being moved into Telangana without the required licence. Police also seized two vehicles and six mobile phones during the operation. The seizure was made on Thursday, according to the police briefing reported by Deccan Chronicle.
The six arrested people were identified as Chapyala Parusharam, 30, of Kanagurthy village in Peddapalli district’s Odela mandal; Vallepu Theja, 23, of Hanumakonda; Kadam Shravan, 36, of Veenvanka mandal; Sura Ranjith, 25, of Bheedevarapalli mandal; and Kasturi Madhu Kiran, 28, and Pagala Sampath Reddy, 52, both of Shankarapatnam mandal.
Police said the explosives had been procured from a person identified as Ravikumar. According to SP Mahajan, the accused intended to sell the material at higher prices to mines and crushers in Telangana. The police account places the seizure within a supply chain connecting material from Uttar Pradesh with industrial extraction and crushing operations in the state.
The seizure highlights the enforcement challenge around explosive materials used in mining and stone-crushing activity. Electronic detonators and boosters are controlled industrial materials, and their transport and use require regulatory permissions intended to limit unauthorised handling and reduce risks to workers, nearby communities and transport routes. The police statement, however, did not provide details of the intended mine or crusher sites, the route taken by the vehicles or how the material was procured.
Police said cases had been registered against nine accused, while six people had been arrested. The distinction indicates that the investigation remains wider than the arrests announced in the briefing. The charges applied in the case were not specified in the report.
DSP L. Jeevan Reddy, Jainad Circle Inspector G. Shravan, CCF Inspector Chandrasekhar and Sub-Inspector P. Goutham were present at the media briefing. Police said the seized vehicles, explosives and mobile phones would form part of the investigation into the alleged transport and intended sale of the material.
The next steps will depend on the police investigation into the source identified as Ravikumar, the remaining accused and the intended recipients among mines and crushers in Telangana.
