A 47-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured after a tree snapped midway and fell on his moving bike and two parked cars near Kores Towers outside Runwal Plaza Tower in Thane’s Vartak Nagar on Tuesday, civic officials said.
The incident took place on Kores Road along Pokhran Road No. 1. The Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation received information about the tree fall at 4.41 pm on October 20 and sent teams to the location for rescue and relief work.
The injured rider was identified as Mahesh Babu Dhuri. According to the RDMC, he suffered injuries to his head, face and hand after the tree fell on his Honda Shine motorcycle while he was travelling along the stretch. He was taken to Dr Anant Vaibase’s Ortho Trauma Centre on Pokhran Road No. 1 for treatment.
The falling tree also damaged two cars parked alongside the road. A Skoda Kylaq sustained extensive damage, while a Hyundai i20 suffered minor damage, disaster management officials said. Dhuri’s motorcycle was also damaged in the incident.
Personnel from the Vartak Nagar police station, the fire brigade and the Thane disaster management cell reached the site. The fire brigade deployed a rescue vehicle and an emergency vehicle, while the disaster management team arrived with a pickup vehicle.
Fire brigade personnel and disaster management staff cut the fallen tree into sections and moved it away from the road to clear the affected area. The response was focused on removing the obstruction and assisting the injured motorcyclist, according to details provided by the civic authorities.
The incident placed a moving two-wheeler, parked vehicles and a busy urban road in the path of a falling tree.
