Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will visit Mysuru on October 21 to inaugurate the city’s Vijayadashami procession, popularly known as the Mysuru Dasara procession, for the first time, according to a schedule reported by Prajavani. His programme includes the traditional Nandidhwaja puja, the start of the procession from the Amba Vilas Palace and the evening torchlight parade at Bannimantap.
Shivakumar is scheduled to arrive in Mysuru by a special flight at 10.15 am. He will then visit the Suttur Mutt, where he is expected to offer special prayers at the temple on the occasion of Vijayadashami and receive the blessings of Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji.
The Deputy Chief Minister will subsequently travel to the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel. At about 1 pm, he is scheduled to proceed with his cabinet colleagues to the Amba Vilas Palace premises in a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation luxury bus, the report said.
The ceremonial Nandidhwaja puja will take place at the Balarama Gate between 1.36 pm and 1.56 pm. Following the ceremony, cultural troupes and tableaux will begin moving in the procession. The elephant Abhimanyu is scheduled to lead the procession as the nishane elephant.
The formal launch of the Vijayadashami procession is scheduled at the inner courtyard of the Amba Vilas Palace between 4.10 pm and 4.35 pm. The ceremony marks the principal public movement associated with Mysuru’s Dasara celebrations, bringing together the palace complex, cultural performances, tableaux and the traditional elephant procession.
Shivakumar is also scheduled to attend the torchlight parade at Bannimantap at 7 pm along with Governor Sudha Yadav. The programme is expected to continue the day’s sequence of religious ceremonies, the palace-based procession and the evening public event at Bannimantap.
The reported schedule places several major Dasara activities across Mysuru on the same day, from the morning arrival and religious visit to the afternoon procession and evening parade. It also identifies the specific time windows for the Nandidhwaja puja and the formal procession launch, which are central to the day’s ceremonial programme.
According to the schedule, the Deputy Chief Minister will return to Bengaluru by a special flight at 10 pm on October 21. The report does not provide details of any separate traffic diversions, public transport changes or crowd-management arrangements for the events.
