Bengaluru Elevated Corridors Get ₹1,640-Crore Tender Push

Bengaluru elevated corridor construction planned across a busy city junction

Bengaluru elevated corridors have moved closer to construction, with Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B-SMILE) inviting tenders for six elevated corridors, flyovers and grade separators across major traffic routes. The projects have a combined estimated civil cost of ₹1,640.33 crore, excluding GST, and are intended to reduce signal delays on some of the city’s busiest roads.

The tender package covers central Bengaluru, Hosur Road, Yelahanka, Mahalakshmi Layout, Tumakuru Road and Kanakapura Road. Each project has a construction period of 30 months from the date the contract is awarded, including the monsoon period. Contractors will also be responsible for maintaining the completed roads and structures for 10 years after construction.

The largest package, estimated at ₹539.94 crore, involves an elevated corridor from Minerva Circle to Hudson Circle, a loop flyover from the existing Balagangadharanatha Swamiji flyover to Town Hall, and another elevated corridor from Anand Rao Circle, also known as Sangolli Rayanna Circle, to Nrupatunga Road near KR Circle.

A second elevated corridor on Hosur Road will run from Shole Circle to St John’s Hospital Road through Anepalya Junction and Adugodi Junction. This package has an estimated civil cost of ₹564.07 crore. The route is expected to serve traffic moving through Adugodi, Anepalya, Koramangala and Dairy Circle, according to the report.

In north Bengaluru, a ₹102.66-crore elevated corridor is planned from Doddaballapur Road near the police station junction, through Old Yelahanka Town, to Kogilu Cross on NH-7 near the Navayuga flyover. The route is intended to improve movement towards the airport road and the Doddaballapur side of the city.

The fourth package covers grade separators on Pipeline Road, from West of Chord Road in Mahalakshmi Layout to the Outer Ring Road. It has an estimated civil cost of ₹315.28 crore. A split flyover at the MEI Junction opposite RNS Shantiniketan on Tumakuru Road has been estimated at ₹41.62 crore.

The sixth project is an elevated corridor, or flyover, at Konanakunte Cross on Kanakapura Road. It has an estimated civil cost of ₹76.76 crore. Together, the six projects are designed to provide uninterrupted movement across several junctions where high traffic volumes currently interact with surface-level signals and local access roads.

The tender documents have been issued through the Karnataka Public Procurement Portal. The proposed 10-year maintenance obligation places responsibility for post-construction upkeep with the contractors, although the supplied report does not provide details on the performance standards, payment structure or penalties that will apply during this period.

The projects span routes used by commuters travelling between Bengaluru’s central business areas, residential districts, industrial corridors and airport-linked roads. Their immediate impact will depend on the tendering process, construction sequencing and how traffic is managed during the 30-month execution period. The next formal milestone is the submission and evaluation of bids through the state procurement system.
