Residents from several villages in Dakshina Kannada have decided to hold a public convention on November 2 demanding the development of the Shishila-Bairapura road, bringing a long-standing local infrastructure issue back into focus.
The decision was taken at a consultation meeting held in Shishila on Sunday. The convention will be held at Arasinamakki, according to a report by Prajavani – Dakshina Kannada. Residents from Shishila, Shibaje, Arasinamakki, Rekhya and Kalenja are expected to be associated with the demand.
The road has been identified by local residents as a long-pending requirement. The meeting discussed the next stage of the campaign and decided to organise what has been described as a rights-demand convention seeking road development.
The mobilisation is being coordinated by the road struggle committee. Its president, Halappa Gowda, attended the consultation meeting along with retired engineer Shivaprakash and residents including Moideen of Arasinamakki, Dharmaraj, Sandeep, Suraj Nellithaya and K. Ramachandra Rao.
The report does not specify the present condition of the road, the length of the proposed development, the responsible government agency, the estimated project cost or whether any administrative approval has been issued. It also does not state whether the November 2 convention will submit a formal memorandum or announce further action.
The planned gathering nevertheless highlights how road access remains a continuing public concern for residents across multiple villages. The next stated milestone is the convention at Arasinamakki on November 2, where residents are expected to press their demand for the development of the Shishila-Bairapura road.
