Delhi’s half marathon will trigger traffic restrictions and diversions across major roads in central and south Delhi on Sunday, with the Delhi Traffic Police scheduling controls from 4:45 am to 11 am as more than 40,000 participants are expected to take part.
The race will begin at around 5:10 am from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The event includes the 21.097-km half marathon, an open 10-km race, a run for senior citizens and differently abled participants, as well as a corporate run and the Great Delhi Run.
According to the traffic advisory reported by Live Hindustan, restrictions will affect roads and junctions along Lodhi Road, Mathura Road, Kartavya Path and adjoining corridors. Key points listed for traffic management include the Fourth Avenue–Bhishma Pitamah Marg junction below the Sewa Nagar flyover, Kotla Red Light, Sewa Nagar Red Light, Meherchand Market Red Light, Second Avenue, Jor Bagh Colony Road and the Aurobindo Marg–Lodhi Road junction.
The advisory also covers the Rajesh Pilot Marg–Amrita Sher-Gil Marg junction, the Subramania Bharati Marg–Max Mueller Marg junction, the Subramania Bharati Marg–Maharshi Raman Marg junction, the Subramania Bharati Marg–Archbishop Makarios Marg junction, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Neela Gumbad, the Mathura Road–Bhairon Road junction, Q-Point, the Man Singh Road roundabout and the Janpath–Maulana Azad Road junction.
The half marathon route will begin inside the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium complex and pass through Bhishma Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road, the Sri Aurobindo Marg junction near Safdarjung Tomb, Mathura Road, Subramania Bharati Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg and the C-Hexagon before reaching Kartavya Path. Runners will then proceed via Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg, Sewa Teerth Circle, Maulana Azad Road and the Man Singh Road junction, returning through the India Gate Hexagon and Canopy roundabout to the stadium complex.
The approximately 2.5-km event for differently abled champions and senior citizens will start at the stadium, proceed along Bhishma Pitamah Marg towards the Lodhi Road junction and return through a left U-turn before finishing at Gate 2. The open 10-km race will follow Bhishma Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road, the Sri Aurobindo Marg junction, Mathura Road and Archbishop Makarios Marg before a U-turn at the Subramania Bharati Marg junction. Its return route will include the Lodhi Road flyover and Dayal Singh College.
The corporate run and Great Delhi Run will travel from the stadium through Bhishma Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road and the Sri Aurobindo Marg junction. Participants will return along the right carriageway of Lodhi Road and Bhishma Pitamah Marg before finishing outside the main stadium.
The restrictions come as Navratri events are also drawing crowds and requiring traffic management across the national capital. The reported advisory places the main control window between 4:45 am and 11 am on Sunday, covering the race’s early-morning start and the movement of participants through multiple arterial roads.
